Elizabeth Stamatina Fey, born May 18, 1970, is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer known for her work in sketch comedy, television, and film. She began her comedy career as a featured player with the improvisational group The Second City in Chicago. Fey gained prominence on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from 1997 to 2006, where she served as a head writer, performer, and co-anchor of Weekend Update. She returned to the show as a satirical portrayal of Sarah Palin in guest appearances. Fey created and starred in the NBC sitcom 30 Rock from 2006 to 2013, earning multiple awards including the Primetime Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. She has also created several other television shows, such as the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the NBC sitcom Mr. Mayor, and the Netflix comedy-drama The Four Seasons. Additionally, she served as an executive producer for the Peacock series Girls5eva. Fey co-hosted the Golden Globe Awards four times with Amy Poehler and has acted in various films including Mean Girls, Baby Mama, and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. She authored the memoir Bossypants in 2011, which was a bestseller and received a Grammy Award nomination. Fey created the musical adaptation of Mean Girls, which premiered on Broadway in 2018 and earned her a Tony Award nomination. She later adapted this stage production into a 2024 musical film.
