Amy Meredith Poehler is an American actress and comedian recognized for her work in sketch comedy, sitcoms, and comedy films. She began her career in improvisational theatre at Chicago's Second City and ImprovOlympic in the early 1990s and co-founded the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in 1995. The group moved to New York City in 1996, and their act became a sketch-comedy series on Comedy Central in 1998. Poehler joined NBC's Saturday Night Live as a cast member in 2001 and served as a Weekend Update co-anchor from 2004 to 2008. She is perhaps best known for her role as Leslie Knope in the sitcom Parks and Recreation, which aired from 2009 to 2015, earning her a Golden Globe Award. Poehler has collaborated frequently with Tina Fey, sharing roles in films such as Mean Girls, Baby Mama, Sisters, and Wine Country. Together, they co-hosted the Golden Globe Awards four times and earned an Emmy Award for their work on SNL. Beyond acting, she has served as an executive producer for television series including Welcome to Sweden, Broad City, Difficult People, Duncanville, Three Busy Debras, and Russian Doll. She has voiced characters in animated films like Shrek the Third, Horton Hears a Who!, Monsters vs. Aliens, and the Inside Out franchise.
