David Andrew Jerome Samberg, born on August 18, 1978, is an American actor, comedian, rapper, writer, and producer. He is a member of the comedy music group The Lonely Island, which he formed with childhood friends Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. Samberg was a cast member and writer for the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from 2005 to 2012. During his tenure on SNL, he and his group were credited with popularizing the SNL Digital Shorts. His film work includes roles in movies such as Hot Rod, That's My Boy, Celeste and Jesse Forever, Popstar Never Stop Never Stopping, and Palm Springs. In addition to live-action films, Samberg has lent his voice to characters in the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs series, the Hotel Transylvania series, Storks, and recent projects like Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, and Zootopia 2. From 2013 to 2021, he starred as Jake Peralta in the television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a police procedural sitcom which he also produced.
