Mark Steven Howe, born on May 28, 1955, is a Canadian-American former professional ice hockey player who played as a defenseman and left winger. His career spanned from 1973 to 1995, including six seasons in the World Hockey Association and sixteen seasons in the National Hockey League. Howe is noted for playing alongside his father, Gordie Howe, and his brother Marty Howe from 1973 to 1980. During his rookie season in 1974, he received the Lou Kaplan Trophy and was named to the WHA All-Star Team three times. Throughout his career, Howe secured two consecutive Avco World Trophies in addition to being the leading point scorer in the 1975 WHA playoffs with 22 points and holding the record for most points in WHA playoff history with 92.

In the 1980s, Howe distinguished himself as one of the best two-way NHL defensemen, being a three-time runner-up for the Norris Trophy. He made three appearances in the Stanley Cup finals and was recognized for his contributions to the sport. Howe's achievements have been honored through his induction into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011. The Howe family was also awarded the Wayne Gretzky International Award in 2000 for their significant impact on the growth and development of hockey in the United States.
