Connor Andrew McDavid, born January 13, 1997, is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who serves as a centre and captain for the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League. He was selected first overall by the Oilers in the 2015 NHL entry draft and is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time. McDavid played ice hockey against older children during his childhood, winning four Ontario Minor Hockey Association championships with the York Simcoe Express under his father's coaching. In 2011, he joined the Toronto Marlboros of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, where he was named GTHL Player of the Year and received the Tim Adams Memorial Trophy. Granted exceptional player status in 2012 by Hockey Canada, he began playing junior ice hockey at age 15 with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League, whom he was selected by first overall in the 2012 draft. During his OHL career, McDavid achieved notable success, including recording 120 points in his 2014–15 season, and receiving numerous awards such as the Red Tilson Trophy, Wayne Gretzky 99 Award, and CHL Player of the Year. He represented Canada internationally, winning gold medals at the 2013 World U18 Championships and the 2015 World Junior Championships. McDavid became the youngest captain in NHL history at age 19 and won the Art Ross Trophy at age 20.
