Sir Christopher Edward Nolan is a British and American filmmaker known for his complex storytelling and Hollywood blockbusters. He has earned over six billion dollars worldwide, establishing himself as one of the highest-grossing film directors of all time. Nolan’s achievements include two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and two British Academy Film Awards. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2019 and was knighted in 2024 for his contributions to film. Nolan developed an interest in filmmaking early in life and studied English literature at University College London. After making several short films, he made his feature film debut with Following in 1998. He gained international recognition with Memento in 2000 and transitioned to studio filmmaking with Insomnia in 2002. He became widely known with The Dark Knight trilogy, released between 2005 and 2012, and continued his success with films such as The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk.
