Edgar Howard Wright, born on 18 April 1974, is an English filmmaker recognized for his fast-paced and kinetic genre films that often include satirical elements. His work frequently features extensive use of expressive popular music, Steadicam tracking shots, dolly zooms, and a distinctive editing style that incorporates transitions, whip pans, and wipes. Wright began his career with independent short films before directing his first feature film, A Fistful of Fingers, in 1995. He created and directed the comedy series Asylum in 1996, written with David Walliams. Following the success of television shows, Wright gained prominence with the sitcom Spaced, which aired from 1999 to 2001 and starred frequent collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. In 2004, he directed Shaun of the Dead, a zombie comedy starring Pegg and Frost, which was the first film in his Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy; the trilogy also includes Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World's End (2013), both co-written with Pegg. Wright co-wrote and directed Scott Pilgrim vs. the World in 2010, a film adaptation of the graphic novel series. He collaborated with Steven Moffat, Joe Cornish, and others to adapt Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin in 2011. Wright co-wrote the screenplay for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Ant-Man in 2015 but did not direct the film due to creative differences. His works also include Baby Driver (2017), The Sparks Brothers (2021), and Last Night in Soho (2021), which display his versatility across different genres.
