Usain St. Leo Bolt, born on 21 August 1986, is a retired Jamaican sprinter who is widely regarded as the greatest sprinter in history. He is an eight-time Olympic gold medalist and holds world records in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4 × 100 metres relay. Bolt achieved the unique feat of winning Olympic titles in the 100 m and 200 m at three consecutive Games in 2008, 2012, and 2016, and secured two gold medals in the 4 × 100 m relay. He gained global recognition for his double sprint victory at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he set world record times in both events. An eleven-time World Champion, Bolt claimed consecutive gold medals in the 100 m, 200 m, and relay events from 2009 to 2015, with the exception of a false start in 2011. He is the first athlete to win four World Championship titles in the 200 m and has distinguished himself with multiple sub-9.7 and sub-9.6 second runs in the 100 m. Bolt set the 100 m world record at 9.58 seconds in 2009, breaking his previous record from 2008, and improved the 200 m world record first set in 2008 to 19.19 seconds in 2009. He has contributed to Jamaica's world records in the 4 × 100 m relay, with the current record of 36.84 seconds set in 2012. His accomplishments in sprinting earned him numerous awards including IAAF World Athlete of the Year, Track & Field Athlete of the Year, and Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, among others. Commonly known as 'Lightning Bolt,' Bolt retired after the 2017 World Championships.
