About Nick Shaw
Nick Shaw is the managing director of EMEA at Renaissance Periodization. Prior to this role, he has built a diverse career as an independent filmmaker and background artist. Shaw is recognized for his work on the independent film Bananas Unpeeled, which he directed, wrote, and edited; the film addresses the struggles of plantation workers in Central America and the Caribbean, featuring an introduction by political activist and comedian Mark Thomas. In 1988, he was commissioned by the Arts Council of England to produce a documentary about singer-songwriter Ted Hawkins, although the project was not released; some footage was later incorporated into the 1996 film Ted Hawkins: Amazing Grace. His recent work includes contributions to films such as Dean Spanley, Princess Ka'iulani, Malice in Wonderland, and Series III of the television series Kingdom. In 2010, Shaw contributed to the production of the film Hugo directed by Martin Scorsese, working on filming in 3D at Shepperton Studios over a period of more than six months. That same year, he appeared as a barman in the comedy Burke and Hare directed by John Landis. Shaw has also collaborated with NGOs including Greenpeace and Christian Aid, engaging in activities such as farm trial evaluations of genetically modified crops and gathering testimonial evidence regarding complaints from a diocese in Central America. Earlier in his career, he worked as a freelance stills photographer, on Soviet cruise ships such as MS Azerbaijzan and SS Maxim Gorkiy, and later in New York City.
