About Kris Kristofferson
Kris Kristofferson (June 22, 1936 – September 28, 2024) was an American musician, songwriter, and actor known for his pioneering role in the outlaw country movement of the 1970s. He shifted away from the polished Nashville sound to develop a raw, introspective style that influenced the genre. Among his most well-known songs are Me and Bobby McGee, For the Good Times, Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down, and Help Me Make It Through the Night. Kristofferson was born in Brownsville, Texas, and later moved to San Mateo, California, during his childhood. After enlisting in the military during the early 1960s, he initially recorded music with Epic Records before signing with Monument Records in 1969, for whom he recorded ten albums. His recording career also included albums for Mercury Records, Justice Records, Atlantic Records, New West Records, and KK Records. In addition to his music career, Kristofferson made a significant impact in film, debuting in The Last Movie in 1971. He appeared in several notable films including collaborations with director Sam Peckinpah on Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, and Convoy. His acting credits also encompass Cisco Pike, A Star Is Born, Heaven's Gate, and the Blade film trilogy. As a member of the country supergroup the Highwaymen from 1985 to 1995, he achieved chart success with singles like Why Me and Highwayman, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. He was a three-time Grammy Award winner and accumulated a total of 13 nominations before his death at age 88.
