About Paul Simon
Paul Frederic Simon, born on October 13, 1941, is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist recognized for his solo work and his collaborations with Art Garfunkel. He and Garfunkel, whom he met in elementary school in 1953, gained prominence in the 1960s as Simon & Garfunkel. Their blend of folk and rock music, including notable hits such as The Sound of Silence, Mrs. Robinson, America, and The Boxer, became emblematic of the 1960s counterculture. Their final album, Bridge over Troubled Water, released in 1970, is among the best-selling albums of all time. As a solo artist, Simon has explored diverse genres including gospel, reggae, and soul. His albums from the 1970s, such as Paul Simon, There Goes Rhymin' Simon, and Still Crazy After All These Years, produced hit singles like Mother and Child Reunion, Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard, Kodachrome, and 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. Simon reunited with Garfunkel for several tours, including the 1981 Concert in Central Park, and has performed multiple times on Saturday Night Live, hosting the show four times between 1975 and 1987. He also made his acting debut in Woody Allen's film Annie Hall. His 1986 album Graceland, incorporating South African influences, is his most successful and critically acclaimed solo work, featuring the hit single You Can Call Me Al. Simon's later works include albums such as You're the One, So Beautiful or So What, and Stranger to Stranger, along with his 2023 release Seven Psalms. He has received numerous honors, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, and has won 16 Grammy Awards. Simon’s works, including Sounds of Silence and Graceland, are recognized for their cultural impact and are included in the National Recording Registry.
