Val Edward Kilmer was an American actor born on December 31, 1959, and passed away on April 1, 2025. He began his acting career on stage, making his Broadway debut in The Slab Boys and appearing in productions of William Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part 1, and the John Ford tragedy 'Tis Pity She's a Whore. Kilmer transitioned into film, debuting in comedies such as Top Secret! and Real Genius before establishing himself in dramatic roles. He gained prominence for performances in a wide array of genres, including playing Iceman in Top Gun, Madmartigan in Willow, Jim Morrison in The Doors, Doc Holliday in Tombstone, Batman in Batman Forever, and Chris Shiherlis in Heat. His films collectively grossed over 3.85 billion dollars worldwide. Kilmer also appeared on stage and authored Citizen Twain, a one-man show about Mark Twain, which he performed in Los Angeles in 2012. In 2015, Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer, which resulted in a damaged voice due to a tracheal procedure, and he underwent chemotherapy and two tracheotomies. Despite health challenges, he continued his work, including his final film role in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022. He documented his career and health struggles in the memoir I'm Your Huckleberry: A Memoir, published in 2020, and a documentary titled Val in 2021. Kilmer died of pneumonia at the age of 65.
