Jessica Diggins, born on August 26, 1991, is an American cross-country skier recognized as one of the most accomplished in the sport's history. She has won four World Cup overall titles, four Olympic medals, and seven World Championship medals, establishing herself as a leading figure in American winter sports. The New Yorker has called her the greatest American to ski on skinny skis and arguably the greatest winter endurance athlete from the United States. Diggins and teammate Kikkan Randall achieved a historic milestone by winning the United States' first-ever cross-country skiing gold medals in the team sprint at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. At the 2022 Winter Olympics, she secured a silver medal in the 30-kilometer freestyle and a bronze in the individual sprint, making her the most decorated American cross-country skier of all time. She continued her success at the 2026 Winter Olympics by earning a bronze medal in the 10-kilometer freestyle. Throughout her career, Diggins has accumulated seven medals, including two golds, at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships from 2013 to 2025. She made history as the first American to win an individual event gold medal at the Championships by winning the 10-kilometer freestyle in 2023. Competing in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup since 2011, she earned the women's overall title for the 2020–21 season, the first American woman to do so since 1982, and added additional overall titles in the 2023–24, 2024–25, and 2025–26 seasons. Beyond her athletic achievements, Diggins has used her platform to advocate for climate change awareness and issues related to eating disorders.
