Mikaela Pauline Shiffrin, born on March 13, 1995, is an American alpine skier known for her record-breaking achievements in the sport. She is the most decorated American alpine skier in World Championships history and holds the record for the most World Cup wins by any alpine skier, male or female. Shiffrin is the only skier to have reached 100 World Cup victories. Her career includes three Olympic gold medals and four Olympic medals in total. She has also secured eight World Championships gold medals, including four titles in slalom, and has been crowned the overall World Cup champion six times. Additionally, she has won the World Cup slalom discipline title nine times. Shiffrin became the youngest Olympic slalom gold medalist in history at age 18 during the 2014 Winter Olympics. On February 11, 2025, she earned her eighth World Championship gold medal, bringing her total to 15 medals from 18 championships and establishing her as the most successful skier in the modern era. Recognized for her influence beyond the sport, she was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2023.
