Jeb Blount, born John Eugene Blount on July 12, 1954, is an American author associated with Sales Gravy. He previously played as a professional football quarterback in the National Football League. Blount played college football for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, where he completed 320 of 588 passes for 4,372 yards and 35 touchdowns over three seasons as a starter. His performances earned him honorable mention All-American honors and recognition as the American Bowl MVP following his senior year. According to Blount, he developed his passing accuracy by herding cattle on his parents' ranch, where he would spook the lead bull by hitting it in the head with a football, encouraging the herd to follow. His professional career included being drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 1976 NFL draft. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve due to an ankle injury and was waived prior to the 1977 season. Despite being claimed by several teams, the NFL awarded his rights to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were in need of quarterbacks that season. Blount earned a starting quarterback position and played rotating roles with teammates during the 1977 season. He was inducted into the Tulsa Hall of Fame in 2021 alongside other notable athletes and coaches. Additionally, Blount is one of four Longview High School graduates to have been part of a Super Bowl team.
