Benjamin Schiff Platt is an American actor and singer known for his work in musical theater and film. He began his acting career as a child, appearing in productions such as The Sound of Music and The Book of Mormon. Platt is best known for originating the title role in the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, a performance that earned him the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical, making him the youngest recipient of the award at that time. His portrayal of Evan Hansen also earned him a Daytime Emmy and a Grammy Award. He reprised this role in the 2021 film adaptation produced by his father. In 2023, Platt played Leo Frank in the Broadway revival of Parade, which garnered him nominations for both a Tony and a Grammy. Besides theater, he has appeared in several films including the Pitch Perfect series, Ricki and the Flash, Run This Town, and Theater Camp, which he also co-wrote. Since 2019, he has starred in the Netflix series The Politician, receiving a Golden Globe Award nomination. Platt signed with Atlantic Records in 2017 and released his debut album Sing to Me Instead in 2019. His subsequent albums Reverie and Honeymind were released in 2021 and 2024 respectively, with the latter following his signing with Interscope Records. Recognized for his influence, he was included on the Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world in 2017.
