EP246: Leadership Shift - What's Different Now?
You got the promotion. You have the new title, maybe a team, and a whole lot of "good luck, you've got this." But what actually changed? This episode kicks off a four-part series on the shift every first-time leader makes, from "I've been promoted into a leadership role" to "I actually am a leader." Today I'm starting with stage one: understanding what's different now. I talk about why the very thing that got you promoted can be the thing that gets in your way, the most common shifts from individual contributor to leader (doing to enabling, peer to leader, having the answers to asking the questions, individual wins to team wins), and the challenges I hear most from new leaders. I also share my own first leadership shift, at 19, as a shift leader at McDonald's. You'll walk away with three simple questions to help you name what to let go of and what to lean into, because awareness is the pixie dust. Enjoy!
