Xavier Becerra: podcast appearances and interviews

Xavier Becerra is an American attorney and politician who has held several prominent roles in public service. Born on January 26, 1958, he is the son of Mexican immigrants and was raised in Sacramento. Becerra earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from Stanford University. His early career included work as an administrative assistant for state senator Art Torres and as a deputy attorney general in the California Department of Justice during the late 1980s. He served in the California State Assembly from 1990 to 1992. In 1992, Becerra was elected to the United States House of Representatives, where he served until 2017 and held leadership positions including chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the House Democratic Caucus. In 2017, Governor Jerry Brown appointed him as the attorney general of California following Kamala Harris's election to the U.S. Senate. He was elected to a full term in 2018 and continued to serve as attorney general until 2021, when he was appointed by President Joe Biden as the 25th United States secretary of health and human services. Becerra is the Democratic nominee for governor of California in the 2026 election, where he will face Republican Steve Hilton. If elected, he would be the first Hispanic or Latino governor of California since 1875.
