Rutger Hauer: podcast appearances and interviews

Rutger Oelsen Hauer was a Dutch actor whose career spanned over 170 roles across nearly five decades beginning in 1969. He gained prominence with his title role in the Dutch television series Floris and achieved critical acclaim with the film Turkish Delight, which was later named the Best Dutch Film of the Century. His international recognition was established through performances in Soldier of Orange and Spetters, leading to roles in American films such as Nighthawks and Blade Runner. In Blade Runner, he starred as the self-aware replicant Roy Batty, a performance that contributed to his reputation and led to further roles in films including The Osterman Weekend, Ladyhawke, The Hitcher, and others throughout the 1980s. From the 1990s onward, Hauer transitioned into low-budget films and supporting roles in major productions like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Batman Begins, Sin City, and The Rite. Additionally, he appeared in commercials and returned to Dutch cinema later in his career, earning the Rembrandt Award for Best Actor for his lead role in The Heineken Kidnapping. Outside of his acting career, Hauer was involved in environmental advocacy and charitable work. He supported causes such as the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and founded the Rutger Hauer Starfish Association, an organization dedicated to AIDS awareness. In 2013, he was honored as a knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion.
