Thomas Lee Jones, born on September 15, 1946, is an American actor, film director, and former football player. Over his career, he has received numerous awards including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. Jones appeared in various projects from the 1960s through the 1980s and became a prominent leading man in the 1990s, recognized for his gruff and authoritative roles in films. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard in the 1993 thriller The Fugitive. His other Oscar-nominated performances include roles in JFK, In the Valley of Elah, and Lincoln.
