Robin D. G. Kelley is a distinguished American historian and academic who holds the position of Gary B. Nash Endowed Chair in U.S. History at the University of California, Los Angeles. His career includes previous appointments as Professor of American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California, and as William B. Ransford Professor of Cultural and Historical Studies at Columbia University. Kelley has also served as a professor of history and Africana Studies at New York University, where he was the chair of the history department for a period. Additionally, he has held roles such as Hess Scholar-in-Residence at Brooklyn College and a Montgomery Fellow at Dartmouth College, during which he contributed to academic mentorship and authored significant works. During the 2009-2010 academic year, Kelley became the Harold Vyvyan Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford University, making history as the first African-American to occupy that chair since its establishment in 1922.
