Peter Lorre: podcast appearances and interviews

Peter Lorre was a Hungarian and American actor born László Löwenstein on June 26, 1904. He began his acting career on stage in Vienna and later in Berlin, where he worked both on stage and in films during the late 1920s and early 1930s. As a Jewish actor, Lorre left Germany following the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. He gained international fame for his performance in the film M (1931), in which he portrayed a serial killer preying on young girls. His first English-language film was Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), made in the United Kingdom. Lorre eventually settled in Hollywood, becoming a prominent figure in Warner Bros. crime and mystery films. His notable roles include appearances in Mad Love, Crime and Punishment, The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, Arsenic and Old Lace, Passage to Marseille, and My Favorite Brunette. Throughout his career, he was often cast in the role of sinister foreigners due to his appearance and accent, and he played Mr. Moto, a Japanese detective, in a series of B-movies from 1937 to 1939. He also portrayed Le Chiffre, the first James Bond villain, in a 1954 television adaptation of Casino Royale. Lorre appeared in several significant films such as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in 80 Days, Silk Stockings, and The Comedy of Terrors. His later work included roles in horror films directed by Roger Corman. Despite a prolific career, he was never nominated for an Academy Award, although he remains culturally influential.
