Peter Thomas King is a former American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 2021. He represented a district on Long Island, encompassing parts of Nassau County and Suffolk County. As a member of the Republican Party, King held various significant roles during his tenure, including chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security. He also served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Financial Services Committee until his resignation from the latter in January 2020. King announced his decision not to seek re-election in the 2020 elections and subsequent retirement after his term concluded. Beyond his congressional career, his professional papers are archived at the University of Notre Dame. In addition to his political career, King was associated with NBC Sports, and he is also recognized as a novelist.
