Neil Percival Young, born on November 12, 1945, is a Canadian and American singer-songwriter known for his influential contributions to music spanning several genres. His career began in Winnipeg during the 1960s, after which he moved to Los Angeles and formed the folk rock group Buffalo Springfield. As a solo artist, Young has released critically acclaimed albums such as Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After the Gold Rush, Harvest, On the Beach, and Rust Never Sleeps. He was also a part-time member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, recording the chart-topping album Déjà Vu in 1970. His music is distinguished by deeply personal lyrics and a distinctive high tenor singing voice, often complemented by his skills on piano and harmonica. His electric guitar work, especially with Crazy Horse, has garnered him the nickname 'Godfather of Grunge', and his collaborations with bands like Pearl Jam continue to influence contemporary music. In addition to his musical output, Young has directed films under the pseudonym Bernard Shakey, including Journey Through the Past and Rust Never Sleeps, and has contributed to film soundtracks such as Philadelphia and Dead Man.
