Nia DaCosta: podcast appearances and interviews

Nia DaCosta is an American filmmaker born November 8, 1989. She gained recognition with her feature film debut, Little Woods, released in 2018. The film was nominated for the American Independent Award for Best Feature Film at the Denver Film Festival and received the Nora Ephron Award at the Tribeca Film Festival. DaCosta expanded her directing work by helming episodes of the crime thriller series Top Boy in 2019. She made history as the first Black female director to debut at number one at the U.S. box office with her supernatural horror film Candyman in 2021. Her achievement was notable for breaking barriers in the industry. In 2023, she became the first Black woman to direct a Marvel Comics film with The Marvels, which became the highest-grossing film directed by a Black woman to date. Beyond these works, DaCosta has directed other projects including Hedda in 2025 and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple in 2026, demonstrating her continued presence and influence within the film industry.
