Lawrence Gene David, born on July 2, 1947, is an American comedian, writer, actor, and television producer. He is recognized for his dry wit, portrayals of awkward social situations, and keen observations on everyday life. Over his career, he has received numerous awards including two Primetime Emmy Awards, three Producers Guild of America Awards, and four Writers Guild of America Awards, along with nominations for six Actor Awards and three Golden Globes. David initially pursued stand-up comedy before transitioning into television, where he wrote and starred in the ABC series Fridays from 1980 to 1982 and briefly contributed to Saturday Night Live in the mid-1980s. His breakthrough came with the creation of the NBC sitcom Seinfeld alongside Jerry Seinfeld, which aired from 1989 to 1998 and earned him Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. He further gained prominence as the creator, writer, and star of the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm, which debuted in 1999 and continued for many years. In addition to his television work, David has appeared in three films directed by Woody Allen, including Radio Days and Whatever Works, and wrote and starred in the HBO movie Clear History. On stage, he made his Broadway debut with Fish in the Dark in 2015. He has also contributed comedic pieces to publications like The New Yorker and The New York Times.
