John J. McDermott Jr. was an American professional golfer known for his historic achievements in the sport. He was the first U.S.-born golfer to win the U.S. Open, claiming victory in 1911 and again in 1912. At the age of 19, he became the youngest player to win the U.S. Open and remains the second youngest to win any of golf's four major tournaments. McDermott was also the first player to break par over 72 holes in a significant event, which occurred at the 1912 U.S. Open. His career positioned him among the top golfers worldwide during the period from 1910 to 1914.
