Glenn Hughes, born on August 21, 1951, is an English musician known for his role as a bassist and singer in the hard rock band Trapeze and as a member of Deep Purple in the Mk. III and IV lineups. He has also briefly fronted Black Sabbath in the mid-1980s. Hughes is recognized for his funk-inspired bass playing and his soulful, wide-ranging countertenor vocal style. In addition to his work with bands, he is an active session musician and has pursued a solo career. Hughes has led several bands, including the supergroup Black Country Communion and California Breed, and he was the frontman for The Dead Daisies from 2019 to 2023. His contributions to rock music have been acknowledged with his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Deep Purple in 2016.
