James Logan (20 October 1674 – 31 October 1751) was a Scots-Irish colonial American statesman, administrator, and scholar. He served as the fourteenth mayor of Philadelphia and held various other public offices during his lifetime. Logan was born in Lurgan, County Armagh, Ireland, to Ulster Scots Quakers, and emigrated to America where he became an influential figure in colonial administration. Notably, he served as the colonial secretary to William Penn and contributed to the development of early American educational institutions as a founding trustee of the College of Philadelphia, which later became the University of Pennsylvania. His career was marked by significant public service and scholarly pursuits, reflecting his leadership and commitment to colonial governance and education. Logan's legacy includes his contributions to the administrative and academic foundations of early Pennsylvania. In his later years, he was associated with organizations such as the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, where he held the role of City Manager.
