James Doohan: podcast appearances and interviews

James Montgomery Doohan was a Canadian actor born on March 3, 1920, and he passed away on July 20, 2005. He is best known for his portrayal of Montgomery Scotty Scott in the television and film series Star Trek. His depiction of the Scottish chief engineer aboard the Starship Enterprise became one of the most recognizable elements in the franchise and inspired many fans to pursue careers in engineering and other technical fields. In addition to his acting, Doohan contributed to the development of fictional languages within the Star Trek universe, including the initial creation of the Klingon and Vulcan languages.

Before embarking on his acting career, Doohan served in the 14th Field Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. He acted as an Artillery Forward Observation Officer and also served as a pilot. During World War II, he saw combat in Europe, including participation in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, where he was wounded, reportedly by friendly fire. Following the war, Doohan gained extensive experience in radio and television, leading to his casting as Scotty. Despite being typecast after the cancellation of Star Trek, he continued to portray the character in the animated series and films, and he regularly appeared at Star Trek conventions.
