About Geoffrey Rush

Geoffrey Roy Rush, born on 6 July 1951, is an Australian actor distinguished by his performances in both stage and screen roles. Known for often portraying eccentric characters, he has received numerous awards including an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Tony Award. These accolades make him the only Australian to have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting. Rush has also earned three BAFTA Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. He is the founding president of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts and was named the 2012 Australian of the Year.

In 2009, he made his Broadway debut in Exit the King, earning the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play. He was also nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his role in Diary of a Madman in 2011.

In film, Rush won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of David Helfgott in Shine. His other notable roles include Philip Henslowe in Shakespeare in Love, the Marquis de Sade in Quills, and Lionel Logue in The King's Speech, for which he received an Oscar nomination. Rush is also known for his role as Captain Hector Barbossa in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and has appeared in films such as Elizabeth, Les Misérables, Frida, Finding Nemo, Munich, and The Book Thief. On television, he has been recognized with a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor and has nominations for roles portraying Peter Sellers and Albert Einstein.
