Geoffrey Roy Rush, born on 6 July 1951, is an Australian actor distinguished by his performances in both stage and screen roles. Known for often portraying eccentric characters, he has received numerous awards including an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Tony Award. These accolades make him the only Australian to have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting. Rush has also earned three BAFTA Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. He is the founding president of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts and was named the 2012 Australian of the Year.

Rush began his acting career with the Queensland Theatre Company in 1971 and studied at the L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq for two years starting in 1975. His international stage work includes performances in Oleanna, Waiting for Godot, The Winter's Tale, and The Importance of Being Earnest. Rush is also known for his role as Captain Hector Barbossa in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and has appeared in films such as Elizabeth, Les Misérables, Frida, Finding Nemo, Munich, and The Book Thief.
