David William Duchovny is an American actor, writer, director, and musician born on August 7, 1960. He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Fox Mulder in the X-Files franchise, a role that brought him international fame and earned him a Golden Globe Award, along with nominations for two Primetime Emmy Awards and five Actor Awards. Duchovny also received a Golden Globe for his performance as Hank Moody on the television series Californication, which aired from 2007 to 2014. Additionally, he had a recurring role in the Twin Peaks franchise as transgender DEA agent Denise Bryson and executive-produced and starred in the series Aquarius during 2015 and 2016. He wrote, directed, and starred in the 2004 comedy House of D, which also featured Robin Williams, Téa Leoni, and Anton Yelchin. His filmography includes a starring role alongside Brad Pitt in Kalifornia and minor roles in films such as Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead and Beethoven. Duchovny played Roland Totheroh in the biographical comedy-drama Chaplin and starred in movies like Return to Me, Evolution, Connie and Carla, and The Joneses. He holds a B.A. in English Literature from Princeton University and an M.A. in the same field from Yale University. As an author, he has published five books: Holy Cow, Bucky F*cking Dent, Miss Subways, Truly Like Lightning, and The Reservoir.
