About Conan O'Brien

Conan Christopher O'Brien, born on April 18, 1963, in Brookline, Massachusetts, is an American television host, comedian, writer, actor, and podcaster. Raised in an Irish Catholic family, he served as president of The Harvard Lampoon during his studies at Harvard University, where he earned an AB degree in history and literature. O'Brien's early career involved writing for various comedy shows, including Not Necessarily the News, and working as a writer for Saturday Night Live from 1988 to 1991 and The Simpsons from 1991 to 1993. In 1993, he was chosen to host Late Night with Conan O'Brien, succeeding David Letterman. Despite initial unfavorable reviews, his tenure lasted 16 years, making him the longest-serving host in the franchise's history and earning a Primetime Emmy Award. He briefly hosted The Tonight Show on NBC in 2009 before moving to Los Angeles to host Conan on TBS from 2010 to 2021. O'Brien has also hosted numerous awards shows and specials, notably the Emmy Awards, White House Correspondents' Dinner, and the Academy Awards. His spontaneous hosting style, characterized by self-deprecating humor, and his innovative remote segments have been highly regarded. Since 2018, he has hosted the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend and starred in planned travel series Conan O'Brien Must Go on HBO Max. Recognized as one of Time's 100 Most Influential People in 2010 and inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2025, he received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2025. His career in late-night television spanned nearly 30 years, concluding with his retirement in June 2021.
