Claudine Gay is an American political scientist and a professor at Harvard University where she holds the Wilbur A. Cowett Professorship of Government and of African and African-American Studies. Her research primarily explores American political behavior, including voter turnout and the politics of race and identity. Gay has held several administrative roles at Harvard, including dean of Social Sciences from 2015 to 2018 and dean of the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences from 2018 to 2023. In July 2023, she became the 30th president of Harvard University, a position she held until January 2024. During her tenure, she faced significant public and congressional pressure related to responses to antisemitic violence on campus. Additionally, allegations of plagiarism in her academic publications emerged, although these accusations were contested. These controversies contributed to her decision to resign from her presidency.
