Charles Eugene Roy, known as Chip Roy, is an American attorney and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Texas's 21st congressional district since 2019. He is a member of the Republican Party and has held various roles in public service. Before his election to Congress, Roy was the chief of staff to Senator Ted Cruz and also served as the first assistant attorney general of Texas under Ken Paxton. As a member of Congress, he is part of the House Freedom Caucus and serves as its policy chair. Roy's legislative career began with his election to Congress in 2018. In 2026, he sought the Republican nomination for Texas Attorney General, but was not successful, losing to state senator Mayes Middleton in a runoff.
