Catherine Anne O'Hara (March 4, 1954 – January 30, 2026) was a Canadian and American actress and comedian with a career spanning over 50 years. She began her career in sketch and improvisational comedy on film and television and later expanded into dramatic roles. O'Hara received numerous accolades including two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her films have grossed more than US$4.3 billion worldwide. She started her career with a starring role on the CBC Television children's sitcom Coming Up Rosie in 1975 and gained prominence through the sketch comedy series Second City Television from 1976 to 1984, where she earned a Primetime Emmy Award. Her film appearances include notable titles such as After Hours, Heartburn, Beetlejuice, Home Alone, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. She frequently collaborated with Christopher Guest, acting in his mockumentary films including Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. O'Hara's voice work features roles in films like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Chicken Little, Over the Hedge, Monster House, Where the Wild Things Are, Frankenweenie, Elemental, and The Wild Robot. Her most acclaimed television role was Moira Rose in the CBC sitcom Schitt's Creek, a performance that earned her a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe. Other TV credits include Six Feet Under, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Last of Us. Her final performance in the Apple TV+ series The Studio posthumously earned her the Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
