Butch Vig: podcast appearances and interviews

Bryan David Butch Vig, born on August 2, 1955, is an American musician, record producer, and songwriter. He is known as the drummer and co-producer of the rock band Garbage. Vig has produced for several notable alternative rock acts of the 1990s, including Nirvana, the Smashing Pumpkins, L7, and Sonic Youth. His production work includes the diamond-selling album Nevermind by Nirvana, released in 1991, as well as L7's Bricks Are Heavy and the Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream, both from 1992 and 1993 respectively. A native of Wisconsin, Vig studied at the University of Wisconsin and initially performed in local bands such as Spooner and Fire Town. He co-founded Smart Studios in Madison with bandmate Steve Marker, establishing a recording environment that contributed to the development of his reputation as a producer. Over time, Vig gained recognition for his work with prominent alternative rock acts. Besides his production career, he formed the band Garbage, which sold 17 million records over a decade and featured Vig as the drummer. Following Garbage's hiatus in 2005, he returned to full-time production work. The band reconvened in 2010 to work on new material. In 2012, NME ranked Vig as the ninth-greatest producer of all time, highlighting his influence within the music industry.
