Bernardo Francisco Moreno Mejía, born on February 14, 1967, is an American politician and businessman currently serving as the senior United States senator from Ohio since 2025. He is a member of the Republican Party. Moreno was born in Colombia and immigrated to the United States with his family, growing up in Florida. After completing his education at the University of Michigan, he pursued a career in business, moving to Ohio in 2005, where he operated car dealerships primarily in the Greater Cleveland area. He later became involved in blockchain companies. Moreno first sought public office in 2022 but withdrew before the Republican primary. In 2024, he successfully defeated Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown to become Ohio's junior senator. Following the resignation of JD Vance to become vice president, Moreno assumed the position of Ohio's senior senator on January 3, 2025. He is notable for being the first Hispanic American senator from Ohio and one of the first two Colombian American U.S. senators, alongside Ruben Gallego.
