Suzanna Arundhati Roy, born on 24 November 1961, is an Indian author and political activist. She is best known for her novel The God of Small Things, published in 1997, which received the Booker Prize for Fiction that year and became the best-selling book by a non-expatriate Indian author. Beyond her literary achievements, Roy is actively involved in human rights and environmental causes. She has received various recognitions for her work, including the 2024 PEN Pinter Prize awarded by English PEN. In her acceptance of the prize, she named imprisoned British-Egyptian writer and activist Alaa Abd El-Fattah as the 'Writer of Courage' and chose to share the award with him.
