Season Five: Episode Three- Mance Lipscomb
Send us Fan Mail In this episode we explore the life and music of Texas Songster and Bluesman Mance Lipscomb. Though he was relatively unheard of, outside of Washington County for most of his life, Mance found fame in his 60s when he was "discovered" by Arhoolie Record owner Chris Strawkowitz and his friend Mack McCormick in 1960. After a harsh life as a Texas Sharecropper, Mance found himself in the middle of the folk music revival of the early 60s and on the stage with Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, Muddy Waters, Janis Joplin, and even Willie Nelson. His story is as powerful as his music and his legacy is that of a master musician finally getting the recognition he deserves.
