Zoë Yadira Saldaña-Perego, known professionally as Zoe Saldaña, is an American actress recognized for her extensive work in film and television. She began her acting career in 1999 with a guest role in Law & Order and made her film debut in Center Stage in 2000. She first gained recognition for her performances in Crossroads in 2002 and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. Saldaña's breakthrough came with her roles as Nyota Uhura in the Star Trek reboot film series from 2009 to 2016 and as Neytiri in James Cameron's Avatar series starting in 2009.
