Nelust Wyclef Jean, born October 17, 1969, is a Haitian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He emigrated to the United States as a child and gained fame as a member of the Fugees, a hip-hop trio he formed with Lauryn Hill and Pras. Jean served as the group's lead producer and guitarist, and their second album, The Score, released in 1996, became one of the best-selling albums of all time. His second album, The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book, released in 2000, was certified platinum and featured the single 911 with Mary J. Blige. His third album, Masquerade, released in 2002, reached the top ten of the Billboard 200. He gained further recognition through his feature on Shakira's 2006 hit Hips Don't Lie, which topped the Billboard Hot 100. His single Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill) from 2007 served as the lead for his final major label album, Carnival Vol. II. Beyond music, Jean has been involved in film scoring, television, and international events such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup with co-written songs.
