Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, born on June 17, 1987, is an American rapper and songwriter known for his roots in West Coast hip-hop. His music often features conscious, introspective lyrics along with political criticism and social commentary related to African-American culture. Since beginning his music career under the stage name K.Dot during high school, Lamar has achieved significant critical and commercial success.
