Winnie Holzman is an American playwright, screenwriter, actress, and producer. She is best known for writing the script of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Wicked. Holzman also co-wrote the screenplays for the two films based on the musical, Wicked and Wicked: For Good. In addition to her work in theatre and film, she created the television series My So-Called Life. Her television credits include the series Thirtysomething and Once and Again. Holzman's stage work encompasses both short plays, which she performed in alongside her actor husband, Paul Dooley, and the full-length drama Choice. Her diverse career spans multiple aspects of the entertainment industry, highlighting her talents as a writer and creator across theatre, film, and television.
