Christopher McQuarrie, born on October 25, 1968, is an American filmmaker known for his work as both a director and screenwriter. He received the BAFTA Award, Independent Spirit Award, and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the neo-noir mystery film The Usual Suspects, released in 1995. His directorial debut was the crime thriller film The Way of the Gun, which was released in 2000. McQuarrie has frequently collaborated with actor and producer Tom Cruise, writing and directing the action film Jack Reacher in 2012. He has also contributed to four installments of the Mission: Impossible film series, including Rogue Nation (2015), Fallout (2018), Dead Reckoning (2023), and The Final Reckoning (2025). Additionally, he provided uncredited rewrites for Ghost Protocol (2011). His involvement in Cruise's projects extends to serving as part of the writing or producing team for films such as Valkyrie (2008), Edge of Tomorrow (2014), Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016), The Mummy (2017), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022).
