Victor Wooten: podcast appearances and interviews

Victor Lemonte Wooten, born on September 11, 1964, is an American bassist, songwriter, and record producer. Since the formation of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones in 1988, he has been the group's bassist. Wooten was a member of the bass supergroup SMV, which included Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller, from 2008 to 2009. Between 2017 and 2019, he recorded as the bassist for the metal band Nitro. He owns Vix Records, a label that releases his albums. Wooten is also an author; he wrote the novel The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music and its sequel, The Spirit of Music: The Lesson Continues, released on February 2, 2021. His musical achievements include receiving five Grammy Awards and winning the Bass Player of the Year award from Bass Player magazine three times, becoming the first person to win the award multiple times. In 2011, readers of Rolling Stone ranked him number 10 in the top 10 bassists of all time. Between 2018 and 2019, he was diagnosed with focal dystonia, a rare neurological condition affecting his hands and upper body, which had limited his ability to play in recent years but has since improved.
