Mike Stern, born Michael Sedgwick on January 10, 1953, is an American jazz guitarist recognized for his significant contributions to the genre. His career includes performances with notable ensembles such as Blood, Sweat & Tears and collaborations with prominent musicians including drummer Billy Cobham and trumpeter Miles Davis. Stern's work with Davis spanned two periods, from 1981 to 1983 and in 1985, before he embarked on a prolific solo career. Throughout his career, Stern has released more than 20 albums, establishing himself as a leading figure in jazz guitar. His talents have been acknowledged through various awards and honors. In 1993, he was named Best Jazz Guitarist by Guitar Player magazine.
