Timothy David Olyphant is an American actor born on May 20, 1968. He made his acting debut in an off-Broadway theater production in 1995, receiving the Theatre World Award for his performance. The following year, he originated the role of David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries. Olyphant initially appeared in supporting villainous roles in films such as Scream 2, Go, Gone in 60 Seconds, The Broken Hearts Club, A Man Apart, and The Girl Next Door. He gained wider recognition for his portrayal of Sheriff Seth Bullock in HBO's western series Deadwood, which aired from 2004 to 2006, and reprised the role in Deadwood: The Movie in 2019. He starred in films including Catch and Release, Hitman, A Perfect Getaway, and The Crazies, and played the main antagonist Thomas Gabriel in Live Free or Die Hard. Olyphant was also a recurring guest star in season two of the FX legal thriller Damages. From 2010 to 2015, he starred as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in the FX series Justified, a role that earned him a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Since then, he has appeared in numerous films such as Mothers Day, Snowden, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Amsterdam. His television work includes guest roles and series such as The Office, The Mindy Project, The Grinder, and Santa Clarita Diet. In 2020, he appeared in The Good Place, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Fargo, and The Mandalorian, where he played Cobb Vanth. Olyphant reprised his role as Raylan Givens in the 2023 miniseries Justified: City Primeval and starred in the FX series Alien: Earth in 2025.
