Tim Burton is an American filmmaker and animator known for pioneering goth subculture in Hollywood. His work features a distinctive style that combines gothic horror and dark fantasy aesthetics with whimsical and surreal elements. Burton has received numerous accolades including one Emmy Award, nominations for two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and three BAFTA Awards. In 2007, he was honored with the Venice International Film Festival's Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement and France's Order of Arts and Letters in 2010.

Burton made his directorial debut with the comedy film Pee-wee's Big Adventure in 1985. He gained further prominence directing films such as Beetlejuice in 1988 and Edward Scissorhands in 1990. He also produced The Nightmare Before Christmas, based on a poem he wrote. Burton has also directed episodes of the Netflix series Wednesday, which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

He frequently collaborates with musician Danny Elfman, scoring most of his films. Additionally, Burton has authored several books, including The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories.
