Thomas Montgomery Newman, born on October 20, 1955, is an American composer, conductor, and orchestrator known for his work on numerous films and television series. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has received six Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, two BAFTA Film Awards, and has garnered 15 Academy Award nominations. Newman has composed scores for a wide range of notable films including The Player, The Shawshank Redemption, Little Women, Meet Joe Black, American Beauty, The Green Mile, Pay It Forward, In the Bedroom, Road to Perdition, White Oleander, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Cinderella Man, WALL-E, Skyfall, Spectre, Bridge of Spies, 1917, and Elemental. In addition to his work in film, Newman has contributed music to television series such as Six Feet Under, the miniseries Angels in America, and the Netflix biographical crime drama Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which he co-composed with his daughter Julia Newman.
